Water Heater Repairs Vs. Water Heater Replacements in Conroe & North Houston

rootermanWhen a water heater has a problem, many people think they must immediately run out to purchase a replacement. However, this isn’t always necessary. Depending on the condition and age of your water heater, our plumbers may be able to effectively repair it so that you don’t have to purchase a new water heater in Conroe.  If your water heater has one of the following issues, a repair or some maintenance may do the trick!

Leaking Water – Overheating water inside your tank may be released by the pressure relief valve. In this case, lowering the thermostat temperature or replacing the relief valve may solve the problem. However, if water is leaking from the bottom of your tank because of corrosion, it may be time for a water heater replacement.

Rusty-Looking Water – Water heaters are equipped with anode rods that dissolve to prevent rust from forming inside the tank. Once the rod is gone, you’ll begin to see rust-colored water when using your plumbing fixtures. The good news is that this rod can be replaced! However, in some cases, discolored water can be a sign of a more serious problem, and your plumber may recommend replacing your hot water piping system or your water heater.

Water That is No Longer Hot – If you own a gas water heater, you’ll first want to check the pilot light. You may need to replace the water heater control valve if you see that the pilot is on. If you relight the pilot light and it continues to go out, there may be an issue with the thermocouple. If you own an electric water heater, your local plumber may need to replace the upper heating element or thermostat.

Water That Smells Unpleasant  – The water inside your tank can actually become infected with bacteria that make the water smell. By getting proper water heater maintenance, including a tank flush, you should be able to avoid or fix this issue.

Noises From Within the Water Heater – This is most likely caused by a buildup of sediment which can make your water heater perform inefficiently. Flushing the water heater will take care of this problem as well.
