Galvanized steel is only slightly resistant to corrosion and rust and only has a 40 year life expectancy. This type of piping is usually replaced with copper because copper is highly resistant to corrosion, extremely tolerant to heat, and not prone to pipe leaks. The only negative thing about copper piping is the cost. An alternative is to use cpvc or pvc pipe which is plastic, less expensive, and last longer depending on repair.
