In 2015, new regulations will take effect for the manufacture and installation of all water heaters in Tomball and the North Houston Area, purchased after April 2015. It may seem unimportant now; however, Rooter-Man Plumbing wants to make sure that all of our residential and commercial clients understand the impact of these changes.
- Energy Efficiency
– The biggest reason for the new regulations is to increase the energy efficiency of water heaters to lower the amount of energy used to heat water. While you may have to pay more upfront for the unit, it will ultimately save you hundreds of dollars a year. We should note that tankless water heaters already exceed the requirements and do not require changes under the new mandate.
- Size Increased
– The new units are larger than the previous units which will impact all of our clients. New building projects will have to be redesigned to accommodate the new size. If you are looking to replace your existing unit, you may have to find a new location for the unit if the current space is too small.
- Installation Costs
– Installation costs may increase given the size and complexity of the new units. We may have to send two technicians to your house to install one of the new models because of the increased size. As a result, we may have to charge more in order to cover the costs. The new units may also require more work to complete the installation, which means they will take longer to install.
While the initial cost may seem daunting, you should remember that these units are designed to save you money. Over the course of the life of the water heater, these new units could save you hundreds to thousands of dollars on energy costs each year.
